Free statistics software for dummies - Anyone could recommend? (Feb/13/2008 )

Hello. I'l like to ask if anyone could recommend a nice, user-friendly (an free!) statistic software which could do the maths for me. Basically I know what to do, there's just no way I'll do it by hand, it would take ages. I googled up and there's so many of them, i don't know which to choose.
I'd add a few basic tests suffice, just a bit more than excel.

You could always pirate the key needed to unlock it.

I think, on the mac, you can get a front end for R... the inner workings of R are not basic. wacko.gif

I guess for all statistical software it is essential to know what to do. In R for windows GUIs are available/developed (I'm not up to date) have a look: http://www.sciviews.org/_rgui/
For basic statistics also Excel spreadsheets are available, that do the job.

I used Kyplot.

Till version 2 it was free and it pretty much made me good graphs. Stat part, I did in OpenCalc.

I've just started using R (free) and SPSS (not free). R is quite good if you know how to use it but it's not as user friendly. As part of a statistics course I'm doing they had a session on how to use R (very basic session) and it can do all that SPSS can do pretty much. It might be worth looking up some online tutorials if there are any.

attached is the manual for R. hope it is useful for some. honestly i didn't have time to read it in detail but it does help.
