eye glasses/Lenses - (Feb/10/2008 )

Pages: 1 2 Next

hi guys,

sure, many of u tried eye lenses or glasses...it's 10 years now for me wearing glasses
i'm thinking of trying lenses but some people who tried them said they got some problems with their eyes (redness,..), glasses are safe, but they change the face..

your thoughts and experiences can help me rolleyes.gif

Hi,

for me it's now 10 years I am waring lenses and I start hating them. For me it is getting hard and harder to remember every evening to take out the leneses. But I hate glasses either so I am thinking about a permanent correction with laser. I am just too scared.

But in general I think lenses are better than glasses. For many reasons. It is easier to change strength when your is changing for some reason, you don't have a fashion problem and so on.

I never had problems with wearing leses except when my eye was swollen.

I hope I was not too confusing, its very early in the morning for me and I am sitting without leneses in front of my computer and try to get awake tongue.gif

hi strawberry,
i have been wearing glasses for more than 15 years. once i tried lenses, my eyes rejected them immediately. never tried them again. a close person to me uses lenses but not everyday and i have noticed at the end of the day it is uncomfortable, her eyes are read and wants to take them off asap. it has advantages and disadvantages, like nearly everything. youd don't need to worry about getting them scratched, they don't fall off like glasses, and others like sumpf already mentioned, but they wouldn't protect your eyes in case of an accident in the lab ohmy.gif that hopefully will never happen. i mention this because there have been accidents here before, once a girl put a flask with boiling media under water runing from the tap and it exploded, something else happened to another student when handling acid and her glassed protected her somehow.

I don't wear glasses nor lenses but just my thoughts. . .

In lab it is better to wear glasses as they protect from accidents. I want to wear glasses when I am working with human samples. I do not want even a little drop of Hep B and Hep C infected sample reach my conjunctiva. I tried wearing for sometime when I had to deal with patients and their blood back in my country after I luckily survived one near accident of patient's pus falling into my eyes but I could not continue it for some reason.

But, when U have to go out in a party or some where U are worried about looks then U can put on lenses.

Some girls just look lovely in glasses.

As one of those tiny blondes who have a problem in making people believe they're not minors, I prefer to wear my glasses. At least I look serious. Lenses in lab, though... if the air in your lab is dry, I wouldn't wear it. Eyes hurt. Plus if any dust gets in, with glasses you can quickly take them off, wash your eyes, and put the glasses again. With lenses it's not that easy.
Alternatively, you can wear lenses just for going out.
I'm biased though, because I don't like lenses.
My labmate did a laser correction and is fine, he had -7 dioptries though, I have much less and therefore I am not motivated enough to bother.

I wear lenses, and i completely forgot them. Very comfortable.
you have to try.
It depends on persons, how many tears you can product. So, have a try with a eye doctor (don't know the english name for ophtalmologue)
if monthly lenses are not comfortable, try dayly lenses ( more expensive, but more comfortable)
If you want to protect your eyes at lab, wear protection glasses. it's much more better than normal glasses, and you can easily wear them with lenses.

hallo strawberry,

in my early years i had to wear glasses. when i got older i decided to wear form-stable hard lenses. the first week, i can remember, was horrible. eyes were red and irritated, but now (12years later) i am very happy with them.

when i treat my lenses right (cleaning 2x every day) then i tolerate them very well.

and when i was on hollidays last year, i didn´t change them for days (i know that is not really good) and it doesn´t matter.

lenses could be very comfortable, but in the evening i´m also sometimes happy to watch TV wearing (reserve-)glasses.

The type of lenses you're prescribed depends on your retina. If it is somehow deformed you may need hard lenses. But that's up for the eye doctor to decide tongue.gif

I use soft lenses for years and it's great. Some people have problems with them though - sore eyes and stuff.
In the beggining it's kind of a stuggle to put them in and take them out. Many people give up right there because they think they'll never be able to do it confortably, but it's a matter of getting used to it.

I prefer glasses in the lab (dry air due to air conditioning, contaminants) although I always wear soft lenses for sports during my free time. It's a personal choice but if you are working long hours in the lab and have air conditioning glasses may be the better choice.
