hello everyone,
i think this is the best place to take out all my frustration accumulated in approximately 2 years i have been here. maybe i should start a "complaining blog" or similar. have you ever been in a situation where your boss always said their former student is great and does everything well? or when you get different results it is because you're doing it wrong and he is right? well, that happened here...it's not really nice being always compared to someone you don't even know (it crossed my head several times was only a product of imagination or the alter-ego). it is also awful presenting a poster at a conference with all the guru's on your subject where...guess who is the first author? yes! the former student! no recognition from your thesis director, and even worse, when giving the first thesis draft (i know it needed more work) but hearing from your boss "you still have a lot of work to finish this horrible project" blink.gif i mean, whos idea was it originally? not the best way to encourage your students to keep working i would say. so please, if any of you has students under supervision don't tell them those kinds of things. and thank you for helping me take out all this negative feelings here.

-toejam-

sorry to hear that, toejam

I dont know what to say about that, but comparing the students in lab could happen, but PI still need to treat each student equally I think.

and also you making poster with someone else as primely auther doesn't make any sense at all.
the former student is gone, so your boss should move on and focus on you and treat you better.

Good luck

thank you Rnotk. It's been over two years there, I think both my boss and me are tired of each other. The last thing was when i proposed a homepage for the lab...he said "you should make the homepage more professional blink.gif same as all my work...anyway, if you ever have students treat them the same and listen to them, they might even come up with good ideas.

I am THERE!!! I AM HATING IT!!!!

-smoochiepie79-

Are you thinking of staying there? Or finding another PI maybe?

Its a sad situation in most places. But that's life.

You have to be calm because you need to finish your thesis. Once you have your degree, get out of that place. But till then be patient. You have been patient for 2 years and now just a few more weeks or months.

-scolix-

I also have a bad PhD experience...

Just curious...
Do you receive a scholarship/living allowance from your PI or you got it from the university?

Most PI prefered PhD student to get their own scholarship/living allowance.

-Minnie Mouse-

tell me one advice.
Its better to have a degree early or
little bit late degree but more publications. Which one is better.

Hey,

I feel with you.

Another bad PhD experience here. Spent one and half year, none of the experiments working ok (I mean even single experiments),
working hard 7 days a week and no support from the boss. What ever I suggest, does not fit to him. Everything starts with "yes, but...", cannot even discuss my results, ideas etc. I don`t believe that it will come out something from the project at all.

I guess it's the latter. It's not your age that matters, only that you can do quality research. PhD is just a degree.
If I'm wrong, then there's really something bad with science today.
