Magnetic ChIP - Magnetic Rack - (Jan/31/2008 )

I was going to try Magnetic ChIP (as I got a free kit and I heard magnetic chip may have less background-as the beads aren't as 'sticky').

The free kit, of course, doesn't include a magnetic rack (necessary to pull down the paramagnetic beads). Can I just use a big magnet under a normal rack, or does anyone have any other ideas? I don't want to buy one yet (since I don't know if I'll 'stick' with magnetic ChIP).

Anyone out there have experience with magnetic ChIP?

I agree that asking a rep is your best bet. If you are going to try to rig up something yourself make sure that the magnet is strong and make sure that it is touching the tube when you go to pull the beads to the side. The two racks we have for this have all of the tubes touching the magnet (well at least they're touching the thin layer of plastic that is covering the magnet).

Hmm, does it pull it to the side (alowing you to pipette out supernatant from the bottom? That could make things quite easy.

Yes, in our racks the beads are pulled to the side in the bottom quarter of the tube so you can pipette all of the supernatant out.
