scientific publishing and cooperation - kozak sequence (Jan/25/2008 )

hello people,
i was looking at the posts about kozak sequences and started doing a deeper investigation about this topic. i had this really odd feeling about things. what i i mean is, i saw the publication list of marilyn kozak and two things got my eye: all of the publications by herself, and what was most strange to me is that all the papers i saw a constant criticism about gene regulation papers and how they are wrong. i quote "It is essential to verify that there is translational control (i.e., essential to rule out alternative mechanisms) before asking how translation is regulated. Many of the postulated control mechanisms are dubious." taken from: http://lib.bioinfo.pl/pmid:17647274
don't you think it is strange that a researcher has all of his/her latest publications by his own? it has to be a hell of work for only one person!! and i believe the more the merrier (most of the times). by the way, i did not read the whole articles in depth but i noticed none of these reviews include epigenetic regulation, which to this matter i consider important. anyway, it is friday afternoon. all of you have a good weekend.

reviews are often attributed to a single author.

have you checked the research articles? look at the acknowledgments to see if she gives credit to any others (or if she works alone). she may not take students.

or she may be what my genetics teacher (a long time ago) used to call an "armchair" scientist, someone who takes other peoples' research and compiles it into a theory for which they take full credit.
