yeast contamination - (Jan/22/2008 )

Hello bioforumers

Please give me a good advice for treating precious yeast contaminated cells. It's transfected Hek cells. I can't throw them away.
all the best

My advice though would be to toss them out., but if you really cannot and you are determined to try saving the culture you can try fungizone or Nystatin. Please see the link below:

if you treat it with harsh drugs...
will it change your cells characteristic?

what do you want to do with your cells later??

Of course the answer is YES.... you will clonally select out the cells that are resistant.....AND THESE WILL NOT BE REPRESENTATIVE of a normal population of HEK cells. The answer is to prepare a master bank of these cells at the lowest possible passage number. If these are contaminated then do the transfection again.

Who said science was easy !!!!!
