microbiology - food microbiolgy (Dec/07/2007 )

Hi all,

I am having trouble in the field of food microbiology. Is anyone familiar with Rapid electrometric techniques-electrical properties of a medium during growth

or

ATP bioluminescence

Both of these are to do with food micro.

Basically i need to know the theory of pathogen analysis methods.

It's not clear what you mean. ATP-based (e.g. Celsis and artec) and Impedance ((Bactometer) technoogies can easily be found for explanation on the net. Neither is speciifc for pathogens.

atp is a component of the living cells of all organisms which involved in energy transfer. A systenm capable of detecting its presence is available in the luciferin-luciferase reaction. Detection depends on a bioluminescent reaction in which an oxidizable substrate luciferin, is affected by an enzyme luciferase in the presence of ATP, to generate small amounts of light which are proportional to the amount of ATP present. The light is detected by a photomultiplier system.
