Cell culture is good for the mental health ! - (Nov/15/2007 )

Hi,

As you may know, cell culture rooms are overpressurized. Wich make the partial pression in O2 higher.
As you may also know, O2 is used in hospital to make the patients go to sleep, or be happy smile.gif

I used to feel a good feeling when I enter the cell culture room, and know, I think I know why biggrin.gif

Are you people feeling delighted too when working in the cell culture room ?

But maybe I'm wrong and the 02 thing is not more an explanation than the fact that the room is apart and calm (noisy but calm).

Please excuse my english, I'm french tongue.gif
(and don't answer me : "please excuse my president, I'm American" ^^)

I often feel stressed when in the cell culture room - probably because my experiments often go wrong!!

I use to work in a very hot city and we haven’t air-condition in the culture room.. so I felt hot and wanted to finish as soon as possible!!!!

Can there be any chance that they put Nitrius Oxide instead of Oxygen.

No, because I haven't realized that until recently. And I use to feel good since long time.
I asked around me, nobody ever noticed it...
Maybe it's just me, but MAYBE NOT ! I hope I'll find someone feeling that too !

Indeed, when I re-read it, it could be biggrin.gif

one of the possible reasons for feeling so good is oxygen intoxication. one of the reasons that astronauts were taken off of pure oxygen (besides nosebleeds and fires) was because of the euphoria that it caused.

another possible reason that just occurred to me is poor oxygenation of your blood. you may have a pulmonary or circulatory problem, maybe anemia, that is causing your blood to carry less oxygen than your body requires. in a higher oxygen atmosphere you will have better oxygenation and feel better, more awake.

you may want to seek aid from a medical professional.
