job future for molecular diagnostics PHD - (Oct/26/2007 )

Hey,

I am wondering where PhD with experience in molecular diagnostics for virus related diseases can go?

Is it difficult to find a position in industry?

Any one knows about this field? Thanks...

What country are you in? What countries can you work in?
For Europe and North America, there are quite a few diagnostics companies. One way to find potential companies, apart from using your local business searches, is to look in Linscott's Directory (http://linscottsdirectory.com). It has thousands of products, as well as hundreds of company details. You could try to pick a few and do some cold-calling.

Good luck!

Thanks for answering. I am in the states. I like this field and going to do a postdoc in molecular diagnostics. But not sure about landing a job after the training. I greatly appreciate your information.

Generally speaking, are there a lot opening in this field as you may know?

Thanks again.

Hi cherry,

Sorry that I can't be more specific. I'm in Australia, and opportunities here are much more limited, mostly because of government regulations that strangle the local manufacturing industry (in favour of the States and Europe, I must say... sad.gif ).
You might be able to get some kind of joint academic/industry position. Look at industry journals like IVD Technology or stuff like that, even if you just google IVD or molecular diagnostics.

Thank you very much for your kind help.

Do you have some good books or articles to recommend for reading for this field?
