Culturing of MUTZ-3 cells - (Oct/22/2007 )

Hello all, does anyone have experience with the MUTZ-3 cells that require the conditioned medium from 5637 cells (for the cytokines released from the 5637 cells). These are from Germany (DSMZ). I am having trouble growing these cells and would like to hear from others. Thank you in advance for your responses.

Ok. I will put in my observations, then someone might have any suggestions. These cells need the 5637 cells to be grown in a specific way. Then within 48hrs we collect the conditioned medium from them and add it to the MEM Alpha medium to a final concentration of 10%. The protocol says we are adding cytokines in the form of conditioned medium. The MUTZ-3 cells need the cytokines for their growth. Another weird thing is the protocol suggests that we grow the MUTZ-3 cells only in 12W plates.
Now the problem is the cells are growing well (well in the sense no dead cells are seen, but they have doubling time like ~40hrs or so). They are very tiny suspension cells. But I also see very small strottles, which seem to be increasing in numbers. I cannot see any rapid movement like the bacterial contamination. But I am not able to identify them. Any suggestions? Thank you.
