Can reconstituted SMP be autoclaved? - (May/18/2004 )

I want to use sterilized reconstituted skim milk powder for making stock of Lactococcus lactis? May I autoclave it at 121C, 15 lb pressure for 15 m. If not, how the sterilization can be achieved? Filteration is not working. Please help me.

Hello ronny1

No problem, you can autoclave SMK. A lot of sources say that.

Thanks Postdoc for your suggestion!

That is correct. The milk is autoclaveable-however it must be cooled down by leaving at room temperature; never keep under running tap water or in a refrigerator to bring down the temperature.
