Protocol to isolate chick lung epithelium and mesenchyme? - or any vertebrate lung...should be similar I suppose (Oct/12/2007 )

Even the old papers I've read just reference old books. Supposedly, Wessell (1967) Methods in Developmental Biology p445-456, has the protocol but I can't find the book (google books has it but restricted).

Anyone have experience or a protocol? How do you differentiate between the two and cut out only epithelium or only mesenchyme?

I have done it with embryonic mice lungs. I took the protocol from some fairly recent papers. It is a while ago, but as far as I remember, you take out the lungs, treat them with enzyme and carefully tease the mesenchymal tissue apart and away. It was fairly obvious to see the difference between the two tissues. If you cultivate the tissue you will also experience that mesenchyme will proliferate much faster.
I see this question is fairly old, are you still interested, then I can try to dig out my notes ? I think the references you are looking for will be mice and FGFs. Was some work where they get the epithelium to move towards beads soaked in FGFs
