Conversion ng into units (insulin) - (Oct/11/2007 )

Hi,

Actually, I need to know if it is possible to convert ng of insulin into units.. and what is the meaning of "unit" because the only information that I can get is saying: The activity contained in 1/22 mg of the international standard of zinc-insulin crystals.

there are two meanings of unit:

the older unit "enzyme unit" is defined as the amount of enyzme that digests 1µmol of substrate in 1 minute.
and there is the SI unit "enzyme activity" defined as the amount of enzyme that digests 1 mol of substrate in 1 second.
these two are both used and often confused.

but as insulin is not an enzyme you would not use "enzyme unit" to describe insulin concentrations. so nah its not possible.
