need help, my collagen gels are watery - (Oct/08/2007 )

Hi,

I have recently made collagen gels (2-3 mg/ml final concentration collagen type I), with a pH between 7.0-8.0. I was hoping to have very sturdy gels, but mine are a little watery. They still gel, but I'm hoping to get rid of the "wateriness." I have made these gels without cells in them. If I add the cells, does anyone know if they will firm up? (My cells are precious, so I'm waiting until I have a good gel to use them.) I use 5x HBSS, FBS, cell media/suspension, and 0.1 N NaOH. The gel ends up being about 40% collagen.

Thanks!

What temperature do you use to let the gel set?
