What is difference between GlutaMax and Glutamine? - (Sep/07/2007 )

I used RPMI medium contained either GlutaMax and Glutamine, so what is the difference between them?

Thanks

Cathy

Glutamine is the free amino acid, while glutamax is the dipeptide (two glutamate molecules joined by a peptide bond). Glutamate breaks down fairly easily in solution, especially when autoclaved. Glutamax is more stable and can still be metabolised to glutamate by the cells.
