ascorbic acid - oxidative stress (Aug/21/2007 )
if you have ascorbic acid in your media and you were doing reactive oxygen studies and oxidative stress studies in cells would it interfere with the results. does ascorbic acid have any known scavenging function.
Ascorbic acid is an antioxidant, free radicles scavenger !
Behold the might of a Google search and the wisdom of Wikipedia.
Do look at the literature if you are interested (story is not as simple... the quantity of asorbic acid and iron concentration can change its overall behaviour. Ascorbic acid makes iron more available to absorption. However too much iron can increase free radical formation.)
