"My" 3000th post - (Jul/28/2007 )

Pages: 1 2 Next

I wanted to do some special thing for this so called "3000th" post.

Let me relate some events i lived with and without bioforum (is it possible to live a decent scientific way without it ? dry.gif)
Well to relate my first visit there, we need to go back to Feb16 2004... ohmy.gif
At this time i registered under an other name...
2 month later, i came back and was unable to remeber my account name.... tĂȘte en l'air say french people. (Basically means that you're never truly concentrate)
so i created Fred, already choosen. I voted for fred_33 as the gironde (france subdivision) ranks 33 in nameorder of france departments. it was on april 15 2004. (a so far period...)..

Few posts at that time, for a siRNA problem i've never solved. That has bringed me through the wall during 3years, a ton of protocols biblio assays.... never saw these small RNAs even if my protein was correcty targeted (more than 10 independent experiments.... showed same nice results).
Anyway, on june i pass my maaster degree, and was not too sure about doing thesis...
September big exam. 10fellowships for 120 students... The first time i really stressed. I succeed it as i still write to you, you know.smile.gif

I came back to the forum at end of january. Our article was refused and i was searching new insights to enhance my results.
I started to post regulary....
I remember that period. i posted only 2-3 posts per day, but at that time Jadefalcon, phDconsul and bob1 were top posters... with roughly 100 posts. The forum as you may have seen is now really bigger. 100 posts and you're at the 5th page of top postings. That's really nice as that means a dynamic forum. The best illustration is scolix who post a average of 4posts per day. You can be sure that in 2days he will reply to a post you've made.

In mars 2005, i received a post from bioforum. He was asking me if i wanted to be moderator. I was so glad of such mail. I reply as i dealed with siRNA cell biology and molecular biology, i woul be honored to participate to these forums. That was done.

Seing back my posts, 2 or 3 print more my mind. Protein extraction protocols, is probably the most posted biggrin.gif But let me getting out of the closet some posts/topics/events that marked me... It's amazing to see such a community living in close area, the forum, independently of the fact it's spreaded all over the world. I've been particulary touched by the pm i received for my birhday, and the fact someone opened a topic for such small case was very nice birthday 2006 (thank you karyotyper)
Also i remeber the post(but don't remember poster) who raise the fact that chitchat session slowely become happy birthday section... adn so what? it's nice to see that even in the research area, some nice persons thnik of you appart for asking your buffer, blame you because the pipett is dischared (you never used that one but whatever).... i've seen few topics about things that drives you crazy and they're full of such examples.
Slight different emple things that makes you laugh after but crazy when it's yours. I smile when i read the post and hit the wall with my head week after : i did same thing angry.gif

i feel i discoverd an new community of friends, that keep anonymous. That's nice to share mjolner doubts and success, the fears of driving with manual transmission happy.gifwink.gif , the stress of future vetticus' scolarship wacko.gif and fell quite supported in hard times (1year for nothing) and see you're not alone in such ##&& exp problems. Some are facing same too... (do you believe in cloning?) wink.gif.
This forum isnice too with small topics that makes you happy just in reading them, like your star, minnie 500posts, aimikins is back, or the personnality tests : i was samwise or an average geek. [to this particular test, i've attached a PhD comic strip, about being a geek, that make me laugh too.]. Funny polls came too and like to play a them... : i missed the contest but still loves calvin and hobbes

I felt more and more involved and let few of my personnality 'coming out' 1st of may... and in other way paralympics. Stange things happened through tis forum, like the french lessons of a crazy french language.
All things that slowely marks you and when something happen to one of us, the whole community is touched. It happens to pBlueScript, but happened to me. For instance, i was playing badminton and was eye-hitted (on my 3 top hurting list for instance...) Some members sent me nice pm, and even an avatar was done. and i sincerely apologizes because i don't remeber who id it...
Posts that make me fell relative close to persons were when hard times come, some shared their fellings. I renew the fact i was sincerely sorry for them spanishflower, vetticus, pBluescript...
Since now, i'm wondering, what have pBluescript, Grapes of wrath seansons george@case, jamie419, john buckels became

Anyway now it's time for me to close this part of this '3000th post' topic, and thank you very much all of you for your support and all good things you allow me to made.
I mean, recently i decided to change my career direction. I have quite all i need in non-working experiments. The fact whn you do almost same manipulations 1 goes well and the other not is a thing i can't support any more. But that's not bad smile.gif I postulated for a new diploma called environment and safety risks managements. There was a form to fill, and it was requested that the cadidate will do a resumé in 4th page, showing his cursus, motivations and reponsabiities holded in the past years. So i mentionned you and the forum, as an international english-spoken forum. my filewas accepted and when i met a small 3persns commitee which was supposedto evaluate my motivation, they decided to run 30' in english directly after someone saw about this forum. Wediscussed about 10'-15', and they felt particulary excited by such a forum. Still high scientific level, but also accessible to beginers (seems to me one of the best reasons-to-be for this forum) and with let say 30persons who showe their experties in some fields, which contribute to keep good level. O this topic is decreasing that level, but makes me feel opening myself to everyone.
Anyway, in the next years, i will deal with competely new things. feel little scared about the fact research may interest me more than this new thing.

I want to thank you very much, all of you.
