i want to think by myself.. - (Jul/27/2007 )

Hello,everyone!

I am in the first year of my PhD..
when i was in my master course, there was a post-doc who instructed me to do the experiments and research.
but he is still here now, and always make the detailed experiment directions for me. always tells me to do this or not to do that...
Maybe i am not well-known like him now..but i just donot like what he says.
I just like to think of the problems, expriments by myself.

Did you have the same experience?

well trust me, being helped in first year is an advantage rather than making you dumb. To be honnest, i think that the time you get enough biblio and overview to set up your own projects and direction came roughly en of 2nd to first third of the 3rd year. Maybe you can discuss with him about your thoughs and fromyour suject. he still have many things to learn to you.
so discuss with him and show him you have a point of view. Prepare in advance the next steps and experiments for your thesis. He will realize you're not the so so master student he still believes to have.
