mannose - how to make ends meet? (Jun/14/2007 )

Hi everybody!

I have to use mannose to select transgenic cell lines expressing mannose-6-phosphate isomerase.
To date, we have used SIGMA Aldrich cell culture mannose, but it costs a lot, about 160€ x 100 g.
Can you please suggest me any other supplier to compare?

Thank you!!!

Sorry, i don't keep a list of EU specific companies. But here is a partial list of companies that I buy most of my lab chemicals from.

Acros
Alfa Aesar
Apollo Labs (however they do more hardcore chemistry)
Albion (if you need mega bulk of simple chemicals)

Sigma is the most expensive place to buy chemicals from.

its funny that you say sigma is the most expensive place to buy as for us, its the cheapest.

same company, different places, different prices.

Interesting. With the prices of chemicals, I wonder if it is worth having "purchasing buddies" in places where things are cheaper, then with an exchange of cash and a postage stamp, get cheaper stuff.

my concern will be the additional expense of sending materials across the atlantic or even across the country or continent.

Thank you very much for your replies!!!

Sigma is the most expensive one here.

If additional expense is affordable, another concern can be the long time required to deliver materials to their final destination. Anyway, I wouldn't reject completely Pernese's idea: it just requires an adequate planning...and a reliable buddy on the other side... ph34r.gif

Hey!
I found a further company. It's named "Duchefa" and it's sited in Holland, but they have several local distributors in other countries (I think mainly European countries, but I'm not sure...).
They offer cheap prices for plant in vitro culture chemicals and they have a rather good choice of products.

...just in case you'll find useful to take a look and compare...
Bye!
