mouse - nmri mice (Jun/07/2007 )

hello,
we are planning to work on nmri mice, we know that the mice does not have spleen and hence there is no immune response, but what is the full form of NMRI mice..

NMRI mice don't have spleen? that sounds very strange...
Are you sure of this information?

I think some of my colleagues work with spleens.. of NMRI mice.

TheKid, NMRI stands for The National Medical Research Institute where it was first bred I suppose by Lynch et al. Here's the reference http://www.taconic.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=869

We don't use it but if you are using it and it really does not have spleen, please post a note in this thread. Reading the reference, I didn't find anything suggesting absence of spleen. If not, please let us know which mice model does not have spleen. That will be helpful to us.

hello,
sorry there was a major typo, its not spleen but thymus, i got the info from this link, http://www.r-lipoic.com/the_elixir_of_life.htm

Ok, that ends the confusion. I also could get a lot of information from there. That was helpful. Thank you.

There is 'nude mouse' also that lacks thymus.

I guess that you meant SCID mice... They are immunodeficient while the NMRI mice are supposed to be a wild-type strain.
