Bring a lunch or buy a lunch? - (May/14/2007 )

Just wondering what most of you people do for food during the week. I hate to go out and buy something (usually not so healthy and too expensive) every day of the week so I like to try and have a lunch most days. I find that it's hard to cook very often so I try to make large pots of food that I won't mind taking a little of every day and then maybe a yogurt and fruit. It's so tedious though...it's so much easier not to have to think of it in the morning, just to cross the street and buy a sandwich...but then my wallet starts to shrink and my ass starts to grow glare.gif

Any thoughts? Secrets? Revelations?? smile.gif

No revelations here. I usually buy a sandwich or some curry at the University Centre . . . sleep.gif Sometimes I might bring my own sandwich and maybe a water and a yogourt . . . I'm laaaazy.

i don't bother with lunch. The food at the Uni is both wallet destroying and kind of tasteless.

I make myself a nice big breakfast.

I'm a Malaysian Chinese. I hate eating Malay food... too oily and expensive... also, they don't have much choice of veggie. But because in my Uni, where majority of students are Malay, Uni only sells Halal food (no pork, and legal for a Muslim to eat). But the problem is their food mostly high in cholesterol and fat, sometimes, unhygine... I ate in their stalls once in a while if i hv Malay friends going out lunch with me.

If not, i rather go further to Chinese food stall which they hv lunch with discount price for student. For a lunch in Malay stall, 1 veggie and 1 meat (with rice) cost more then RM 3. If i want to eat 2 veggies and meat... price will be more then Rm 4... which is quite a burden for a student like me. In chinese stall, they hv plenty of veggies for me to choose and 2 veggies + 1 meat (with rice) only cost Rm 3!!! and since i can take more veggie... certainly more healthy!!! sometimes, we'll get free veggie soup as well!!!

the food at the univeristy is cheap and eatable... blush.gif besides we have plenty of places around where you can buy your bento ( lunch box, consisting mainly in rice, fry fish, 2 or 3 beans, egg) for reasonable prices.
But I still prefer to cook myself (It is far cheaper thatn buying every day). I cook dinner and next day lunch every night when i reach home. I am really tired when I enter home, so the first thing I do is to cook, if I dare to sit first then..... University cafeteria....... ph34r.gif

for breakfast, i prefer eating something at home before getting out , if i have no time, i take a cup of tea with milk or chocolate from university cafteria...i can't concentrate before having something to eat wacko.gif ...and for lunch, also, from the cafteria, sandwitch, juice, and a plate of salad with cheese rolleyes.gif

hhh, miss these days sad.gif

here the food in the cafeteria is healthy, but a little expensive. so, I cook more during the week-end, (and my friend also, he is a good cook wub.gif ), and I bring it at the lab.

We have some pretty decent food at the Uni cafeteria, but very expensive. So, like all my colleagues, I bring a lunch every day. We even talk about recipies at lunch time tongue.gif

my family model includes a very mommy type mom, so i got used to house food. when i left home and got married i just got used to cooking twice a week. actually, i love to cook, probably cuz i do it well (what better incentive!). i usually cook varietys of food to last all week on sunday and then go choosing and combining what i feel like. yes, if you are asking i collect tupperware! on weekends we usually have leftovers or cook whenever we feel hungry. as for my husband, i pack him a lunchbox with a home-cooked meal every day, tho i usually choose what goes in his tupperware, as long as theres food hes happy... my husband deserves no less than a nice meal everyday!

example: 5 day (monday to friday) stash for 2 people:
- 5 portions rice (aprox)
- 5 baked potatoes
- 5 lettuce salads
- 5 carrot salads
- 5 pieces fish
- 5 pieces turkey

so you have 8 different menu options for the week.
- fish+tomato+rice
- fish+tomato+potato
- fish+carrot+rice
- fish+carrot+potato
- turkey+tomato+rice
- turkey+tomato+potato
- turkey+carrot+rice
- turkey+carrot+potato

as u can all see here we have a varied menu and as i cook in large quantities for the week, costs go down.
