To join in, just start with "I once heard..."

I once heard...
that in terms of surface area, Texas isn't the largest state in the US. Colorado is, because of the effect of the Rocky Mountains.

I once heard...
that if they were to get there somehow, there is sufficient atmosphere for cockroaches to be able to survive on the Moon's surface.

I once heard...
that the earth would change it's way around the sun slightly, if all people in China were jumping up and dozn in the very same moment.

I once heard...
that every post-office in England has to have a cat to save the letters from being eaten by mice.

Where do you take these ideas for cool topics from, Swanny? biggrin.gif

I once heard:

No matter what is the size of the paper, it cannot be folded more than 7 times!!!

Try it if you do not believe it. biggrin.gif

Simply the signs of a slightly deranged mind. That, and the fact that I'm bored out of my tree writing and editing reports! But if my manager is watching this forum, I'm really going well with them, and you'll have the final version tomorrow...

I once heard:

Earwigs (Dermaptera: Forficulidae) climb in the ears of their victims (while sleeping outside) and penetrate, via drilling through the internal ear, the brain to find a place to sleep. What else should they do there? wink.gif

I once heard...
that pigs can't see the sky, because the shape of their skull and muzzle don't allow them to look up.

that butterflies taste flavours with receptors sited in their legs.

I once heard...

that bumblebees cannot fly - as scientists working on aerodynamics calculated.

PS: Some flies (Diptera) really taste with their legs, butterflies not.

ooops...
once I heard...
...a wrong thing about butterflies, but I guess there's no one here interested in it... biggrin.gif
I hope that at least the pigs fact is right.
...any zoologist here?

the thing about earwigs was only an urban myth (they dont like the wax)
