upset - (Apr/17/2007 )

i am feeling very upset and want to talk with somebody. i was told by my PI to write intoduction, M and M and some results for a paper. so I took my time and wrote this and submit today. but he instantly saw that paper and told me where is the discussion????
i really sometimes get upset and he make me confused. he didnt told me about the discussion and the fact is that we need a discussion (chat) before writing the discussion of the paper. if the intorduction and paper theme is not correct to discussion will no longer important, so i thought we will first decide about the paper theme and introduction and then will go to write the discussion..........but now he hold me to write discussion and i know i will waste one more week to write that and then he will say something different

Just curious, how do you write an introduction without a discussion in mind?
Refer to the request by your PI as a help - you'll need to learn to write a discussion on your own. At least, you are going to name the most important topics. But be prepared to rewrite it after your PI has seen it - THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NORMAL! The only way of learning this is doing it and get corrections afterwards. No use in only writing down what has been told you before.

who is writing directly the paper without need of any correction or change?

(nobody)

Be brave, you will write 10 "different papers" before to write the right one, that will be corrected 10 times more ! closedeyes.gif

good luck smile.gif

Sounds to me like a typical lack-of-communication problem on the PI's part.

I know you're upset, and you've a right to feel that way, but try to just shake it off, sit back down, and bang out that discussion section. It'll be over before you know it.

Just remember, you're not going to be working for this PI forever...

my sencere advise is when you are asked to submit your manuscript, please do everthying even if it is your first draft. uncomplete manuscript gives bad impretion about your work. include title, abstract, introduction, M and M, discussion, references, figures and figure legends. number the pages. i know it is difficult, but it is much more accurate and your manuscript has some frame that makes it heavier. smile.gif your PI will correct it 100 times but please remember that it is better to be corrected at this stage, if it is not properly written, it will be rejected which is much worse. good luck!
