PC12 cell culture. Do I have to coat plates first? - (Apr/04/2007 )

hello.
I just started with PC12 cell culture. Some say I have to coat the plate with collegen.. however, my pc12 attaches and grows on non-coated plates. Though they clump, it is a commem phenomina for these cells, isn't it?

My question is, can I culture them without coating? mellow.gif
Thanks!

Coating is done for different reasons.

Some do it so that cells attach better to the surface.

some for better neurite outgrowth in neuronal cells.

Some cells need it to be healthy.

So depending on your cells, You can choose not to use any coating.
