Microvolume syringes for mice ip - (Feb/22/2007 )

Hi all,
i am planning to induce tumor subcutaneosuly in mice and then start a therepeutic approach using some novel drugs. since i have extremely few mgs of drug available for these experiments, i tend to be very stingy during the drug dilutions and injection.
my question is whether it is safe to use microvolume glass syringes (100µl)with 25 guage to do an ip injection in nude mice as the 1ml syringes have a void volume of 100µl which would waste a lot of drugs.
has anybody tried microvolume glass syringes before for mice ip.
thanks for your patience.

how much volume do u intend to inject? if its a 100ul, an insulin syringe should do it.

we use insulin syringes and try to make all injections close to 200ul to increase accuracy

Yes indeed. i plan to inject 100µl, if i use an insulin syringe i have to draw 200µl since the needle and syringe nozzle take up a 100µl non-injectible volume which apprantely not reusable for the subsequent injections.

We've used hamilton syringes with sharp needle end for GC (gas chromatography) 250-500mkl for ip injection.

I am using this insulin syringe and i need to inject only 100ul and I can with any or little additional loss of solution.

Try hamilton syringes, I think they have one wihout deadspace to avoid loss of solution.

Thx guys for the useful information smile.gif
