Specific and Total Activity for Protein Purification - (Jan/31/2007 )

We computed/measured the specific and total activity for a particular enzyme in the CFE. We're now going to purify the CFE for that particular enzyme. Would the specific and total activity increase after the purification?

theoritically, it's supposed to increase

specific activity increases during purification. total activity decreases because you lose some from step to step during purification. however, sometimes you will see an increase in total activity in an early step because of the removal of an inhibitor.
