Adherent HEK293 serum-free protein-free medium - (Jan/30/2007 )

Hi!

Does anyone know a company producing serum-free and protein-free (so i guess chemically defined...) medium for HEK293 cells? I can only find medium for suspension cultures....any idea? Alternatives?

Thanks Stardust

hi,
I used to starve my 293T cells for 24h-48h, and they don't like it but definitively survive...
I hope it helps

starving is not an option they need to be fit to express my protein...any ideas?

Have you tried growing your adherent cells in medium optimised for suspension cultures? It might work, 293 are pretty easy to grow.

I haven't tried it yet because most of the manufacturers say don't do it (they are optimised to avaid cell clumps so cells can't adhere to flask anymore...). But I have found a Medium for adherent cells. I'll get it next week (Cambrex Pro293a) and try if my cells like it!
