Organelle Functions - (Jan/28/2007 )

Hi, I am having trouble with this question. I have already searched my book.

The structural filament most actively involved in movement of molecules and organelles within the cell is the:
intermediate filament, microfilament, microtubules, or all participate equally.

According to my book (Campbell and Reece) they all seem to be involved in those processes. I am unsure about this one because my book implies that all participate, but it does not imply that participation is equal.

Please help. I am so confused! Thanks in advance.

hi!

I might be wrong..

intermediate filament acts as connector btw cells across interior of cells themseleves... that is.. attaching to plasma membrane and link up with the neighbouring cell. so intermediate is definitely out if this is a mcq..

microfilament i think only refering to the smallest unit of filament.. and depends on how u want to see its functions.

Mircotubles allow motor molecules ( the other end of the motor molecules is attaced to vesicles), to be attached to it and be transported along the cylindrical microtubule. in short.. MT is for vesicular transport and hence molecules and organelles.

normally text book are easily outdated. what might be true yesterday might not hold tommorrow.
Is better to read journal and so on.
and different textbooks have slight different views.

I think,

regards,
caine
