MDA cells - (Jan/19/2007 )

hi guys
I'm growing MDA-MB-231. I cultured two different passes about 4 weeks ago and the cells seem doing well. However lately i noticed the presence of large cells in both passes i have and they look a little different than the more oval epithelial cells. it does not seem like contamination cause the cells in general look fine but it makes me worried to see this change in morphology. the cells are in pass number 8. when i thawed them they were pass 5.

anyone noticed this kind of elongated large cells.

Large cells appear when you pass them in low cell density. Those will eventually be diluted away due to less growth advantage over noraml cells.
