does sonication work for yeasts? - (Dec/28/2006 )

has anyone tried sonication to lyse yeast cells?

not really with the setup available to me. they are quite tough little creatures.

Glass beads with a cell beater works. If you want proteins. It breaks down the cell walls quickly.

Glass beads or enzymes (lyticase- zymolase) work if you want DNA, though I prefer the enzymes to degrade the cell walls, it leaves the cell intact-ish and thus the DNA / chromosome remains in good shape.
