Filtration of bacterial culture - (Dec/23/2006 )

Can somebody enlighten me on what is the best filter material for filtering a bacterial culture to make it bacteria free and ensure no loss of proteins. I am working on the culture filtrate and am presently using a PVDF membrane to filter the supernatant following centrifugation and I suspect that I am losing the protein of interest in the culture filtrate owing to its getting trapped on the membrane. Plese advise and suggest urgently.

I would contact Millipore, BioRad, or Pierce's technical support and ask about low-binding and non-binding membranes to use to filter your culture supernatant.

if you use PVDF, I would expect many many proteins to bind...even with a bigger pore size
