peaceful dove - (Dec/20/2006 )

i've done my final year project on title avifauna at coastal area...i've done
several sampling for this project..at my study site i faound peaceful dove( [i]Geopelia striata)that belong to family Columbidae..i've found this species for several mounth while my sampling..but i ddn't found this bird in October...at my study site..so can somebody help me to answer this kind situation..so may be can i used as my discussion when i'm writting my report...isn't this situation is related to their breeding season..or something else...so i hope u all can help me to answer this kind of qustion... biggrin.gif

I guess as many Colmbidae it is not a migrating bird with regular seasonal migration between breeding and overwintering sites. And as I don't know where you are working, it is difficult to attribute this behaviour to saison as in temperate regions. But also in warmer climates, undirected/irregular migrations (e.g. due to local lack of food or surplus of food in other regions, overcrowding, unfavourable climate conditions (e.g. too hot, too less water) in summer, ...) may occur. Doves are good flyers.
