The Ashes - Anybody watching at the moment? (Dec/17/2006 )

Long time reader, occasional chit-chatter.
Anybody watching the Aussies demolish the English? First ball after lunch, and Warne does it!!

No, Australia.

And to mnqcljsm, the Ashes sure are heading this way. The funny thing is that the debate now has started as to whether they should stay in OZ while we hold the trophy, or whether it should stay at Lords permanently. I mean, apart from the last 15 months, Australia held the ashes for about 16 years, but they lived at Lords.
I heard a good comment this morning on the radio. The caller said that the urn was a "gift", from a group of Melbourne-based women, to the MCC. As a result, the urn should stay at Lords (how terrible to take back a gift...). That and the fact that the insurance bill for its trip down under is going to be about 2 million bucks! Personally, I think the money would be better spent on cricket development, oh hey, hang on, perhaps we should let the MCC use the money for cricket development program. tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif wink.gif

Now, even though the Ashes have been won and lost, things will still be interesting, because it's now become a matter of national pride. Can the Aussies impose a 5-blot whitewash; can the English restore some pride (because they are going to get an absolute hammering from the English media - already are to some extent).
