soft agar - (Nov/24/2006 )

hiya can someone plz help me!!

i understand that soft agar does not contain any nutrients for bacterial growth, but bacteria can grow on soft agar in plates. Why???!!
Why use soft agar, when you can use nutrient agar, is there a difference, i do not understand!!

soft agar is less time consuming i.e rapid growth, and gives you accurate colony preservation.

well, i think you're doing confusion between LB agar plates, which contains nutrients for appropriate bacterial growth and soft agar assay.
Soft agar is done for cells analysis. Only tumor-like cells (means cells that don't need any attach to martix for grow) can form colonies.
