Can I select stable transfectants with amp-resistant vector? - (Nov/23/2006 )

I have got a gene in an expression vector with an ampicillin resistance gene;

transient transfection is no problem but is there an antibiotic to select stable mammalian transfectants?

If your construct does not have a selection marker suitable for mammalian cells you can do a co-transfection with a plasmid with one such gene at a ratio of 10 (interested gene) to 1 neo-containing plasmid, then select with corresponding antibiotics. neomycin, hygromycin, puromycin resistant gene can be used. Amp is mot useful for mammalian cells.

Which expression vector are you using?

-dnafactory-

and to add one more marker... blasticidin
