Viral RNA - have you ever run it in a gel? (Nov/11/2006 )

Dear all,

I am just wondering what should I expect to see when I run HIV viral RNA in a gel... should be on acrylamide or agarose?
I think there should not be visible "subunits" but a band reflecting the viral genome?

What do you think guys?

I was using acrylamide gel. Howeve, I did not see any band.
My samples are mainly from treated petient serum, so viral load is low.
You should be see a band, but to confirm this you have to hybridized with you specific probe.

Best regards

well acrylamide is used for protein and DNA fragments not greater than 4 kb...did you try it with agarose gel?

-Property of Yulia-

yes I did, since I was expecting to see a band for the viral genome which is about 10Kb

so ur saying it also did not go well with agarose gel?

-Property of Yulia-

nop, despite the A260/280 were 2.0 and I loaded 250 ng...

The agarose gel will be a good choice, but you have to get a good viral DNA extraction.
