Which medium do you use to grow HEK293 cells? - (Oct/30/2006 )

MEM
DMEM High Glucose
DMEM Low Glucose

with 2mM Glutamine
or 4mM Glutamine?

Does anyone know whether high glucose would do bad to HEK293 cells?

Thankls.

DMEM Low glucose with 2mM Glutamine and 10%FCS

I use high glucose, so it must not be bad for them.

I think MEM with 2 mM L-glutamine and complemented with Earle's BSS (1.5 g/L Na-bicarbonate, 0.1 mM non-essential amino acids, 1.0 mM Na-pyruvate) + 10% FHS will do;

other media may work; if you like to refer to special data of your or others lab, try to adapt their methods to yours for comparability

Yes, I too use DMEM high glucose + 10% FBS + 2mM L Glutamine + 1mM MgCl2. So High glucose is not bad.

We use also MEM, as recommended in ATCC. The cells are growing very well, however when we tried accidently DMEM they were in pretty bad condition!

We have transfected HEK 293 cells growing in low glucose DMEM supplemented with New Zealand Foetal Calf Serum and 2mM L-Glutamine. Our cells seem to grow fine, but they have been also Mycoplasma tested recently. Mycoplasma infection can obviously affect cell growth. The most important ingredient is FCS. ONLY BUY QUALITY FCS.

DMEM High Glucouse 10% FCS 4mm L-glu.
