Stem Cell growth on soft agar - (Sep/04/2006 )

HI,
Do stem cells grow on soft agar? Is this property of anchorage independence a property of cancer cells alone?

I assume your doubt is still not clearly answered. Theorotically stem cells are known to grow independent of anchorage (like suspension cultures). But as far as I know only cancer cells can be grown on soft agar.

Well, I know that hematopoietic stem cell can be grown in sticky methylcellulose based medium with supplements. I am not sure can it be grown in soft agar... dry.gif
