how to determine sonication's quality - (Aug/29/2006 )

Hi,

I am wondering how to efficently test the sonication's quality, I know some protocols tell us to do the reverse cross linking and run the gel to see if the band is at the right size.
But could we just run the gel with using the cell lysates right after sonication? that may save us great deal of time.

I would like to know how your lab test the sonication quality, our lab just run the sonicated cell lysates on the gel, if the size is less than 1Kb, it's fine, otherwise, we will sonicate it a bit more times.
