What is the purpose of SDS in microarray hybridization buffers - (Aug/15/2006 )

Does anyone know why SDS is included in hybridization buffers for microarray hybridizations? What purpose does it serve? Thanks

I do the reverse of micro-array hybridisation --> in situ DNA denaturation. I use a NaOH/SDS denaturant- although the SDS doesn't denature the DNA, it does reduce non-specific interaction with the surface. It stands to reason the same principle would apply to in situ hybridisation.

hi
SDS serve as a background reducer during hybidization.
During washes, it serves as gentle wash agent in cooperation with salts (too small quantity for the background matter but still enough for wash).
