1) 75% EtOH, 0.5-1% Na ClO, H2O2, O3, Ethylene oxide, to name a few.
2) as much as you can before killing your cells/tissues. antibiotics take care of the rest.

Hey,
0.1% mercuric chloride is used universally. but it denpends what plant part you are using as explant. Than you can adjust the timing as per requirement.
Also sodium hypochlorite, and 70% ethanol can be used in severe conditions

In my lab, they often use sodium hypochlorite ethanol (70% or 96% depend on your explant) (with Tween ofcouse).
We don't use Mercuric chloride because of its high toxicity to us when manipulating.
If you know how to combine these usual chemicals, the yield will be higher.
Furthermore, some people use benzoic acid, citric acid, hydro Chloric, Copper Sulfat, antibiotic ect in their sterile experiment.
In my opinion, I often use Duck (blue solution contain: CuSO4, HCl, NaOCl...) in a short time to eliminate bacteria completely, keep your explant healthy. Vagina washing solution sometime can be use for yeast treatment efficiently. smile.gif
