Need protocol for wet-spinning DNA - (Jul/13/2006 )

Hello.

I need a protocol for wet-spinning DNA into oriented fibers. I am studying drug/DNA complexes using spectroscopic methods. I need to be able to stretch a drug/DNA solution into a fiber for experiment.

Of course, I have already tried other methods of creating fibers, and many have been successful - just not as successful as I would hope. So I'd like to give this a go before I move on.

I seem to recall a paper by a woman named Rosalind Franklin that did some experiments with those fibers. Seriously, I think you should look at the early 50's literature on preparing DNA fibers -- they probably did it right.
