rat femur histopathology - decalcification (Jul/12/2006 )

Hi all,

I am needing to decalify rat femur for further parrafin embedding and section cutting. The only guidelines I have are very vague. Fix femur in neutral buffered formalin then decalcify in 10% EDTA in water at pH7.4 for 2-3 weeks at 4*C. Is there more to it, or is that really all there is?

It's been a while since I did any thing like that, but it sounds right. It's an old, slow process, but I think that it is a slow process. You should end up with a small floppy femur!
