Raw 264.7 growth stimulation - (Jun/16/2006 )

Hi,
Is there anyway to speed up the growth rate of Raw 264.7?

hi liumaikuh ! why do you want to speed up the growth rate of RAW. RAW it self is a very rapidly dividing cell line. moreover if you increase the rate of division the cells start behaving in a very abnormal fashion. beleive me i faced many problems like lake of responsiveness of the cell line to external signals, decrease in phagocytosis etc. and found that the rate of division of my cell line J774 h has decreased many times. i am not sur ewhether i should relate my problems to the decrease in doubling time of the cell line but iam very skeptical about decreasing the doubling time now.
however if you want to decrease the doubling time then try adding glucose @ 4500 mg/L. usually low glucose is recommended for macrophages. what i found is increase in glucose concentration enhanced their multiplication, cells looked more healthy but responses were very poor.
in my experiments of phagocytosis, cells used for phagocytosis did not divide, but the control wells didnt stop dividing creating lots of experimental errors
all the best

I agree with Dr. Keshava, Raw cells grow like weeds. You may check if you have made some obvious mistakes in cell culture, or used a bad batch of serum.
