Is any DNA contains in gelatin? - (May/17/2006 )

I don’t know whether this question is suitable to post here or not, I wish I can have an answer or any further information for me to read (if have any website linked will be advanced). The question is the gelatin isolated from animals contained DNA or not? I had tried to search in Google scholar and Pubmed but I can’t get the answer from the searching result. I can’t get the answer maybe due to unsuitable key words (my key word are “gelatin, DNA extraction”). Anyone has any idea with this question? Please guide me if you have the answer. Thank you very much

hi
i think the gelatin we have ordered is without gelatin. I think you'd beter ask for some provider of gelatin. Normally some types of gelatin are made by hydrolysis of collagen and aren't supposed to contain DNA.

thanks for fred 33 for your kindly reply. I think so that the gelatin we used in lab supposed not to contain DNA regarding to my provider. But not edible gelatin as i found one paper that publish in "Journal of Food Protection, Vol. 68, No. 11, 2005, Pages 2420–2426" as titled "Conventional and Real-Time PCR–Based Approaches for Molecular Detection and Quantitation of Bovine Species Material in Edible Gelatin". Furthermore, i think no matter those gelatins from animals or vegetables, is that reasonable for me to assume that those gelatins still contains minor DNA that might be amplified by PCR and obtained some "contamination" amplicons?

PCR buffers used to contain gelatin as a bulking agent to concentrate protein, but has gradually been left out because it interferes with DNA sequencing gels. Gelatin may be used as a stabilizer at 0.001% (w/v). Fish gelatin is generally used to avoid potential mammalian DNA contaminants.
