FACS - Is there an alternative for FITC to label E. coli for FACS (Aug/13/2002 )

Is there an alternative for FITC to label E. coli strains for binding assays in the FACS-analysis? Preferably in the red range.

Yes, you should try labeling with the dye PE, phycoerythrin. It is easy to make and it can be bought from more than one vendor or you could synthesize it directly from algae, but that process takes approximately two weeks in a cold room. Glad to help!
