free VectorNTI - VectorNTI for Windows (May/04/2006 )

As it does not really fit under the topic "bioinformatics" but is somehow related to.

If you are doing academic research, so nothing commercial, you can obtain a brand new version of Invitrogens "VectorNTI" Software - for free. I tried it and I am really happy with that strange special offer. Up to now I haven't found a hitch. The only thing is....it doesn't work with OS X Tiger (10.4). So if you're still running a 10.3 OSX Panther Version there shouldn't be a problem. Invitrogen writes, that they won't develop a patch. I guess with a new Apple OS in the end of 2006 there will be a lot changes (Intel Chipset, Windows compatible) so they won't put money in sth thats not necessary. I'm using the program in Version 10 on my windows machine.

Hope you have fun with it ;-)

How did you manage?? as it asks you to register first and at the third step of registration it asks for billing information!!!

may i (once again smile.gif ) recommend ApE which also works perfectly with MacOS. Somehow I don't trust companies to much, that give away stuff "for free" ph34r.gif

you have to 'order' a free licence, if you take a look at the bill, you should see that for an academic licence you have to pay 0 $. I also found it kind of strange to do it like that, but in the end it works out (although I did keep a print from the bill where it states that you have to pay 0 $)

I have to agree with tatzilo. I have recently downloaded Vector NTi and works nicely. Takes some time to get used the different functions it offers. I hope they will keep it free.

So do all of you telling me that all who downloaded Free Vector NTI have given your billing address and then downloaded? I am still kind of apprehensive.

yep, it seems to be really that easy! I've found an installation instruction i.e. on that URL: http://uncgene.unc.edu/VNTI_Install.htm and I think, if an university tells their students that it is free, it should be ;-)

But its true, I was kind of surprised to order a product for free. I guess if you would use all the features the program comes with, more people would order products from invitrogen. Perhaps its something like a radical strategy of competition.

The users manual is quite good, I'm still kind of "spellbound" by the package.

Hello, though it's a little late now.
but i'm still trying to get a free vectorNTI

i registered and downloaded the software, BUT, i still don't see that license product for academic users.

and i can't modify my account, it says you can edit it after the account is activated.
But i didn't receive any email. so i was guessing if this means that someone would be calling or anything..
Do you guys get notification email after registration?

thanks

(i would really like to have a copy of the user manual)

you should get an email within a few days (maybe a bit more sometimes) with the license number. you can register up to 3 computers with a license.
