The Oil Drop Expt. In Biology!!!

What will happen if we drop a cell in oil?
I think whole of its bilayer-membrane protein arrangement will get disturbed...bilayer will become mostly monolayered... thus membr. channels may suffer from loss of fuction every otherthing that passive diffusion of oil soluble things will ceize. So cell dies due to chem imbalance and lack of nutrients...

not just oil u can use any other fluids or media & depending upon the results of putting cells/organelles etc. there ...we may get some application in tech.

Please convey ur opinions...

I know that the content disappoints after u read the title! ph34r.gif

here's a curveball....

depends on the cell type, and what type of oil do you mean?

there is work being done to support using microbes to clean up oil spills; also there are extremophiles that can live in types of oil directly, at least for awhile

Yeah, Oil type [ medium type] will make it differ, but does that differ considerably [ 1-2%difference] for cell types?
Extremophiles...nice info...i'll search.
thanks.
