urine formation - (Mar/30/2006 )

there is three steps in urine formation,

glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption and tubular secretion.

is the same as: pressure filtration, selective reabsorption, countercurrent mechanism??

thanks

The glomerulus is a high-pressure filtration system.
Tubular reabsorption is selective.

The countercurrent mechanism involves the interaction between the flow of filterate through the loops of henle, and the flow of blood through the adjacnt vasacecta blood vessels.

Tubular secretion is the movement of chemicals from the blood into the nephron. This process can occur in the proximal or distal convoluted tubules. This is important for disposing of substances which were not filtered, removal of excess K+, controlling blood ph, and eliminating substances which have been reabsorbed.
