Motif or domain - (Feb/14/2006 )

Hi!
Can anybody help me with this understanding problem?
What´s the difference between a binding motif and a binding domain?

hi
a binding motif is the AA sequence that allows to bind sthg. This sequence may be in 1 or many parts of the linear protein, and become active when protein is folded (and maybe there is need to activate the protein)
a binding domain, is the part (or parts) of the linear protein that participate to form the binding motif.

Hi!
So the domain is linear 2° structure and the motif 3° structure?

for me domain is linear 1° structure and the motif 3°/4° structure
